In summer 2018, Pat worked alongside director Talia Feldberg and actors Grace Bernardo, Elizabeth Fetterolf, and Nora Kaye to create Radium Prototype: A Work In Progress for DarkFest at The Tank. This performance marked the first iteration of a new theatre piece focusing on the discovery of radium by Marie and Pierre Curie, the “radium craze” of the early 20th century, and the tragic history of the “Radium Girls” who were exposed to the harmful effects of radium in workplace settings. Utilizing devised-theatre practice to mix primary-source documents and original writing, this project explores the history of radium with an eye toward the labor struggles surrounding the “Radium Girls” and toward popular culture’s treatment of scientific advancements. The piece is still in development.
